As a business owner, one of your New Years’ resolutions might be to balance your books more regularly or to tighten up your cash flow. If only the federal government would do the same.
It’s hugely disappointing that the legislative bridge to avert the ‘cliff’ did not address our country’s most pressing economic issue: unchecked spending that leads to crushing deficits and debt. There is some relief in the end of the mystery of what your tax rates will be, but there is much more work to be done to address spending and out-of-control deficits.
We know you’re worried. We agree that you should be. That’s why, at NFIB, we are resolving to be resolute. Steadfast. Unwavering – in our fight for you, against those in government who would trample your rights to own and operate a profitable business.
In 2013 and beyond, your NFIB hereby resolves to:
• Demand responsible political leadership for fiscal responsibility.
• Oppose any legislative threat to small business wherever it arises – in Washington, D.C. or your state capital.
• Intensify the fight to reduce excessive and wasteful government spending.
• Push repeal of Obamacare segments that fall disproportionately on small firms.
• Advocate permanent solutions to bad tax policies.
• Seek reversal of unnecessary and overzealous regulation.
• Help end the war on success and entrepreneurship.
• Insist on respect for the institution of free enterprise.
• Strengthen grassroots support of pro-free-enterprise candidates.
• Educate political leaders about the importance of entrepreneurship, regardless of political affiliation.
• Increase entrepreneurship education for future generations.
I know you are disheartened by our federal government’s wayward drift, but that is the very reason we must double down and remind our elected officials that small-business growth and prosperity is the answer to America’s economic ills. Our nation cannot continue to blunder along this misguided path to fiscal disaster.

Firmly assure them that you are resolved to see small business regain its rightful place as our nation’s economic engine and job creator.
