Yesterday the Senate Majority formally introduced their “New Jobs NY” plan. It has some nice ideas in there and even addresses some issues that NFIB has been advocating for. Of course the fear is that some may view this as a potential trade off for raising the minimum wage. For me, that is a non-starter. While I support the “New Jobs NY” plan, I will not trade minimum wage for it.
For me, the most interesting development yesterday was the Governor’s comments, again, that he did not see minimum wage happening this year. Also, Majority Leader Skelos stated that the Senate would not be voting forany minimum wage legislation this year as well. Both are encouraging, but there still are a few weeks left to go before session ends. Safe to say that small business owners are not out of the woods yet.
