Today was the day many political observers had dubbed as the “main event” at the Supreme Court. Based on the reports out of Washington D.C., the “event” lived up to the billing.
On the docket today, was the critical debate on the “Individual Mandate”. The individual mandate is the piece of Obamacare which requires that every individual must purchase health insurance or be fined. This unprecedented provision represents the first time government has told individuals that they have to do something simply because they are alive. NFIB has challenged the law based on the constitutionality of the individual mandate and believes that if this provision is struck down, the entire law should fall with it.
This morning, NFIB President and CEO Dan Danner issued a statement urging the Supreme Court to do just that.
As we move through the afternoon, there will be more analysis and feedback on today’s events for sure, so I leave you with this recap from CNN legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin.
