While the legislature was on recess for the week, there were not a lack of developments here in Albany!
The bulk of the conversation centered on Governor Cuomo’s Tier VI proposal, as it should. What started on Tuesday with Let NY Work’s myth-busters (which I wrote about here), continued with stories chronicling Comptroller DiNapoli’s union ties and ended with a rather troubling story in today’s New York Daily News. An encouraging development was news that a group called the “New York Leaders for Pension Reform”, led by New York City Mayor Bloomberg, has joined the fight to get Tier VI enacted. NFIB remains steadfast in support of Tier VI as proposed, including the defined contribution piece. Simply, Governor Cuomo needs to stay the course!
With the legislature due back in Albany next week amid reports that the budget could get done early, things are surely going to get moving very quickly!
In national NFIB news, a nationwide grassroots campaign raising awareness on the problematic individual mandate and our campaign to have Obamacare overturned was launched and has received tremendous support. Speaking of the Supreme Court, NFIB successfully argued in an amicus brief on behalf of the property rights of business owners!
Another good week in the fight for free enterprise! To continue to be informed, keep visiting our blog and visit the NFIB website!
